MLK Day events set

TROY — The Martin Luther King Dream Team has announced there will be a celebration honoring the life and preaching of Dr. Martin Luther King beginning at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 18.

There will be a brief march beginning in the Southwest quadrant of Prouty Plaza (in front of Bakehouse Breads) and will end at the First United Church of Christ where there will be a service after.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Calvin Alston of the Christ United Methodist Church of Columbus.

Immediately following the service, there will be fellowship and a luncheon at the First United Church of Christ. The luncheon is free of charge.

Snow tubing on tap

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA will be heading to the beach on MLK Day for an afternoon of snow tubing at Beach Mountain at The Beach Waterpark.

This event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 18 with pickup and drop off at both the Piqua and Robinson branches for youth in grades first through sixth (must be at least 42-inches-tall to tube). Report available, trustees reorganize

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton Township Trustees also held their re-organizational meeting for the year.

For 2-16. officers and representatives for the trustees include:

President — Stanley Fessler; vice president, Gene Laughman; Miami County Council representative, Terry Wackler; alternate to Miami County Council, Gene Laughman; Park Board representative, Gene Laughman; Joint Fire District representative, Stanley Fessler; debris manager, Terry Wackler; park director, Stanley Fessler; cemetery director, Gene Laughman; and road and bridge director, Terry Wackler.

The township meeting will continue to be the third Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. at the Newton Township Building, 210 W. Walnut St., Pleasant Hill.

The trustees rehired Joel Via as their part-time employee. Kenny Angle also was rehired as emergency help.
