Tipp man attempts suicide on courthouse plaza

33-year-old man listed in critical condition

MIAMI COUNTY — A 33 year-old male is in critical condition after his attempt to commit suicide on the Miami County Courthouse Plaza in the early morning hours Wednesday.

According to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Chief Steve Lord, Glen M. Lange, of Tipp City, drove his truck onto the courthouse plaza between the old courthouse and the Miami County Safety Building around 1 a.m.

A Troy Police Department officer on patrol heard a gun shot in the area and responded to the scene. The officer found Lange inside the truck, which was still running, with a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight where he is listed in critical condition.

According to Chief Deputy Lord, Lange had appeared for a domestic-related hearing at the Miami County Safety Building on Tuesday.

Two spent casings from the .38 caliber revolver were found at the scene. It is undetermined if Lange had fired a round into the unoccupied Safety Building or if the single gunshot wound to the head traveled to strike the door way of the building, shattering a window.
