Restaurant inspections


Restaurant inspections are performed in the county by Miami County Public Health, except in Piqua, which has its own health department. These inspection reports were provided by Miami County Public Health.

Feb. 2

American Legion #586, 377 N. Third St., Tipp City — Clean ice machine in bar area of residual film. Clean every three months or when needed.

Certified, 891 S. Miami St., West Milton — Establishment is good at time of inspection.

Fraternal Order of Eagles, 715 E. Broadway, Covington — Observed cottage cheese containers used to store chili. Discussed with manager that they are single service items not meant for rewashing. Corrected.

The prep refrigerator in kitchen is holding at 46F. Repair equipment to hold at less than 41F. Observed philly steak and lettuce above 41F in prep refrigerator. Remove items from refrigerator until repaired.

Indians Pizza, 212 N. Main St., Pleasant Hill — Clean hard-to-reach areas on floor in kitchen or storage areas of residual buildup. Clean ice machine of residual buildup. Clean every three months or when needed.

Patty’s IGA, 106 E. Main St., Bradford — Observed produce in boxes on walk-in floor. Store 6 inches off floor to prevent contamination. The floor in deli and other walk-in coolers are dirt and need cleaned more often. Observed broken tiles in deli and dry goods area. Please repair. The floor and wall of walk-in freezer are made of wood. Materials are needed to be smooth and easily cleanable as well as non-absorbent. Repair hole in wall in deli.

Tokyo Peking, 3 N. Market St., Troy — Previous issues resolved at this time.

Troy Meat Shop, 502 Garfield St., Troy — Discussed cleaning of sausage stuffer. Equipment approved for use. Discussed with owner in raw meats are ROP, then a HACCP would be needed and approved by Health Department before use. Previous issues resolved.

True North Shell, 1298 S. Dorset Rd., Troy — Barbecue sauce/mustard stored at room temperature, labeled as “refrigerate after opening.” Product discarded. Store these items in cooler at 41F to prevent growth of organisms. Build-up of soil/debris on cooler floor. Ensure cooler is cleaned more regularly.

Wendy’s, 825 W. Main St., Troy — Observed time as a public health control being used but written procedures aren’t available to licensor. Please obtain and keep on file. The coving in walk-in cooler is pulled away from the wall. Please repair. Observed food debris in screw and side of tomato slicer. Please break down slicer completely and clean thoroughly.

Feb. 3

Bakehouse Bread Company, 317 Public Square SW, Troy — Observed packaged cookies and granola for self serve missing business info, quantity and allergen info. Discussed and gave copy of code to owner. Replace current labels with correct information to provide more accurate information. Observed broken lids on sugar and powdered sugar bins. Please replace. Observed dishwasher drying dishes with cloth towel. Air dry dishes only to prevent any contamination. Observed broken tiles under the dough shaper and cutter, Please replace or repair.

Lincoln Square, 1320 Archer Dr., Troy — Observed dry cloths being used in grill area to wipe equipment. Buckets with sanitizer water cloths must be used to clean counters and equipment. Corrected.

Miami East K-8 School, 4025 N. St. Rt. 589, Casstown — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Feb. 4

Coldwater Cafe, 19 E. Main St., Tipp City — Observed workers eating in kitchen area. Eating can only occur in designated area separate from food prep area. Observed some food debris on slicer in hard to reach areas. Clean thoroughly to limit growth of organisms.

Concord Elementary, 3145 St. Rt. 718, Troy — Hot holding is above 141 F, cold holding is below 41 F. Overall cleanliness is very good. No violations observed.

Covington Care Center, 75 Mote Dr., Covington — Vent hood over dishwasher needs cleaned of dust residual.

He5 Asian Bistro, 121 E. Staunton Rd., Troy — Observed handles on dishwasher with residual buildup. Clean all handles daily or when needed. Observed stained cutting board. Replace or resurface.

JJ’s Lunchbox, 7031 S. Co. Rd. 25A, Tipp City — Seals on refrigerator need cleaned. Potato slicer is dirty, clean. A pot with cut potatoes and one with noodles in the walk-in are not covered. Cover and date foods in cold storage.

Railroad Restaurant, 629 S. Crawford St., Troy — Overall conditions of the kitchen/storage areas very poor, clean. Floor tiles are missing, exposing the wood sub-floor, repair. Light covers and lights are missing in the vent hood, repair. Prep sink is very dirty, clean and sanitize. The large refrigerator has mold growing in the racks and inside, clean and sanitize. Seals on refrigerator need cleaned. Dirty dishes under Star Max burner, clean. Sides of equipment under vent hood are very dirty, clean. Covers are missing from equipment, replace.

Riverside School, 1625 N. Troy-Sidney Rd., Troy — No violations observed.

Troy High School, 151 W. Staunton, Troy —Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Feb. 5

Broadway Elementary School. 223 W. Broadway, Tipp City — Observed an ice cream bucket being used to store butter. Obtain equipment designed to be reused and washed for food storage. Observed broken tiles in kitchen. Please repair to be smooth and easily cleanable.

Comfort Suites, 1800 Town Park Dr., Troy — Thermometer battery cover missing. Replace thermometer and ensure it is operating properly. Area behind cooler and freezer has dirt/debris buildup. Clean the area more regularly.

Hot Head Burritos, 968 W. Main St., Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Springmeade Health Center, 4375 S. Co. Rd. 25A, Tipp City — Ceiling paint is not a glossy surface that is easily cleaned. Dust is sticking to ceiling. Repaint properly. Continue working on grout levels between tiles. Regrout all low areas in food service. Clean under dishwasher area on wall sections that have residual build-up. Clean area properly. Observed/felt residual food on handles or handle areas. Clean this build-up every 24 hours or when needed.

The Refinery, 302 N. Miami Ave., Bradford — Clean gasket in freezer of residual film.

Tipp City High School, 615 E. Kessler-Cowlesville, Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Tipp City Middle School, 555 N. Hyatt, Tipp City — Observed the wash temperature of dish machine at 147F after running several times. The wash temperature needs to be about 150F. Observed the rinse temperature to be 97F on dish machine. The rinse temperature needs to be about 180F to achieve sanitation. Hand sanitize all dishes in sink until dishwasher can be repaired.
