MIAMI COUNTY — A Tipp City man was sentenced Monday to serve nine years in prison for first degree felony charge of rape of a minor.
Mark Donohoo, 50, of Tipp City, plead guilty to the charge last month as part of a plea deal with state prosecutors to dismiss a second degree felony corrupting another with drugs.
At the time of the incident, Sept. 13, 2014, the victim was a 15-year-old Troy girl whom Donohoo knew through mutual friends.
Miami County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Gee noted that Donohoo also committed the offense while on felony probation in Auglaize County. In that case, Donohoo was arrested for possession of cocaine. Authorities arrested him as he was traveling to meet up with a 16-year-old girl to give her the drugs.
Gee said Donohoo’s conduct deserved a substantial prison sentence and noted his criminal history of befriending young teen girls.
Prior to sentencing, Donohoo said there wasn’t a minute that has gone by that he didn’t feel remorse for his actions and apologized to his family, friends and to the victim.
“I am truly sorry,” he said in closing.
Miami County Assistant Prosecutor Janna Parker said Donohoo’s statement in open court was the first time she has heard him express remorse for his actions while he was incarcerated for the incident.
Donohoo also was sentenced to serve 30 months for third degree felony weapons under disability charge for possessing an antique handgun while on probation. That sentence will run concurrent with the nine-year prison sentence. Donohoo is also to register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of his life. He recieved 69 days of jail credit.
According to reports, the teen met up with Donohoo to buy her cigarettes. On the way to a gas station, the teen told Donohoo she had a headache and Donohoo handed her several unidentified pills. The girl told police she remembered was in and out of consciousness and remembered waking up in various states of undress with Donohoo hovering over her, telling her he loved her before she passed out again. When the victim went home, she was taken to a local hospital where medical professionals performed a rape kit test.
