Blood drives set
MIAMI COUNTY — Tipp City United Methodist Church will host a community blood drive Monday, Aug. 29 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall, 8 West Main St. And on Wednesday, Aug. 31, the West Milton Lions Club will sponsor a community blood drive from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the West Milton United Church of Christ Social Hall, 108 South Main St.
These drives come during the final week of the “Wild About Alaska Summer Blood Drive” with a last chance to win an Alaska vacation for two. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE.
City to fog for mosquitos
TIPP CITY — The City of Tipp City will fog the community for mosquitoes on Aug. 31 with a rain date of Sept. 1, including City Park and Kyle Park.
The fogging in the residential and downtown areas will be performed over the City streets. A second and final application will be done on Sept. 13 with a rain date of Sept. 14.
The mosquito fogging will begin at 9 p.m. and conclude by 3 a.m. on the days stated, beginning on the western side of the city and proceeding easterly fogging the entire community.
Residents are advised to avoid direct contact with the fogging mist and to close house and automobile windows. If rain or wind conditions prevent fogging, the City will reschedule the applications. Additional fogging may occur later if needed.

Application deadline nears
MIAMI COUNTY — Not-for-profit organizations are reminded the next grant deadline for the Miami County Foundation is Aug. 31.
Applicants must provide services directly to the citizens of Miami County. All must be certified federally tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service and preferably be a 501(c)(3) organization.
Historically, grants have been awarded to human and social service organizations, schools, healthcare providers, libraries, youth and senior groups as well as the arts.
Application forms are available online at www.miamicountyfoundation.org or by contacting the office at (937) 773-9012. Guidelines restrict organizations to one grant annually. If you received a grant in the spring, you are not eligible to reapply until the next grant deadline. Schools and on-going humanitarian grant recipients are exempt from this restriction.
Successful applicants will receive notification of the fall distribution date.
The Foundation was established in 1985 by Richard E. Hunt, founder of WPTW-AM/WCLR radio.
Library receives new screen
WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union Public Library is excited to announce their new big screen — which measures 116 by 72 inches and retracts into the ceiling. It will be a great improvement for the library’s free movie nights, Wii parties, and presentations in the community.

First time shooter program set
VANDALIA — The Miami Valley Shooting Grounds will conduct a First Time Shooter Program on Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at 9 a.m. The program, free to the public, will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to shooting by qualified range safety officers and instructors.
The program includes firearms operation and safety, shooting fundamentals and hands-on instruction. Participants will also experience live firing of a variety of firearms including semi-automatic pistols, rifles and shotguns under the supervision of trained range safety officers.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be a minimum age of seven years. Guardians must complete a parent permission form. Without a parent or guardian present you must be 18 years old to fire pistol, rifle or shotgun.

Eastern Star chapters to meet
DAYTON — The 127th Session of the Grand Chapter of Ohio, Order of the Eastern Star, to be known as the “Today is the Day” Session, will be held at the Dayton Convention Center, Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 23, 24 and 25. This will be the last session of the Ohio Grand Chapter Session to be held in Dayton, Ohio.
Evelyn Hardesty, Worthy Grand Matron from Johnstown, Ohio and William (Bill) Taylor, Worthy Grand Patron, from Glenford, Ohio will preside over the sessions.
An Open Installation (by invitation only) of the 2017 Grand Officers at 1:30 p.m. will close the Grand Chapter Session on Sunday, Sept. 25. Michelle Howell from Clarksville, Ohio will be installed as Worthy Grand Matron and William Cox from Copley, Ohio will be installed as Worthy Grand Patron for the 2017 year.
All Eastern Star members are sincerely encouraged to attend the 127th Grand Chapter Session of the Ohio Order of Eastern Star.
Art show applications available
WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church is looking for applicants to take part in the 10th annual art show held Oct. 14-1. The deadline for entering is Sept. 28.
The event is held in the activity center at 201 S. Main St., West Milton. The purpose of the show is to share area talent with the public. The show is non-juried.
Some pieces may be available for purchase, with transactions handled directly between the artist and the interested party.
A gift from local arts patron Bill Netzley of Netzley Roofing has enabled Hoffman to offer monetary awards again this year. Awards to be given are $500 for first place, $400 for second place, and $300 for third place. Eight additional awards of $100 each will also be presented.

Apply to be a Christmas Show vendor
TIPP CITY — Applications are being accepted for craftspeople for the 48th Annual Christmas Holiday Show on Saturday, Nov. 12, during Tipp City’s annual Winter Yuletide Gathering.
This show features local artists with their handmade items including articles in wood, fiber arts, glass, polymer clay, and many other materials.
The location is the basement of the Monroe Township Building at the corner of Third and Main Streets in Tipp City. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., set-up the day before. There is a caterer handling food service, and many people come downstairs for lunch and snacks and so also visit the show.
