“The Music Man” marches into town
TIPP CITY — “The Music Man,” an All-American musical classic, opens Aug. 19 and runs through Aug. 27 on the stage in Tipp Central Auditorium.
Director Jim Hooper returns to the Tipp City Players at the helm of the production and will be supported by Music Director Jennifer Hewitt and Choreographer Khyrsten McCann. Also in the production is Todd Varvel as the lead, Professor Hill. Todd is reprising the role his father, Paul, mastered back in August 1975. The ‘75 show was the 1st production Tipp City Players put on stage.
Tipp Central Auditorium is located at 223 W. Broadway St. Tipp City. Show dates include Aug. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, starting at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children. Family passes and show passes, for all five presentations, are available.

Tipp to host Trans Am Nationals Cruise-In
TIPP CITY — From 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, Old Tippecanoe will host the 20th annual Trans-Am Nationals Cruise-In.
The Saturday night cruise-in is the highlight of a three day Trans-Am Nationals event held each year in Dayton. Organized with the help of Trans-Am Club of America, Dayton chapter, and The Ohio Firebirds, owners of Firebirds, Formulas, Firehawks, Trans Ams, and GTA’s are urged to enter, but everyone is invited to view the entries and enjoy the fun.
The event will take place in the Old Tippecanoe Historic District in downtown Tipp City with free admission.
Registration cost for car entries is $10 without t-shirt and $25 with t-shirt while supplies last. Registration is at Monroe Federal Bank 24 East Main St. from 5-7 p.m. The first 250 entries will receive dash plaques and trophies will be awarded.
Activities until 9 p.m. include shopping, a 50/50 raffle, and a DJ providing music at Third and Main Streets.

City to fog for mosquitos
TIPP CITY — The City of Tipp City will fog the community for mosquitoes on Aug. 31 with a rain date of Sept. 1, including City Park and Kyle Park.
The fogging in the residential and downtown areas will be performed over the City streets. A second and final application will be done on Sept. 13 with a rain date of Sept. 14.
The mosquito fogging will begin at 9 p.m. and conclude by 3 a.m. on the days stated, beginning on the western side of the city and proceeding easterly fogging the entire community.
Residents are advised to avoid direct contact with the fogging mist and to close house and automobile windows. If rain or wind conditions prevent fogging, the City will reschedule the applications. Additional fogging may occur later if needed.

Application deadline nears
MIAMI COUNTY — Not-for-profit organizations are reminded the next grant deadline for the Miami County Foundation is Aug. 31.
Applicants must provide services directly to the citizens of Miami County. All must be certified federally tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service and preferably be a 501(c)(3) organization.
Historically, grants have been awarded to human and social service organizations, schools, healthcare providers, libraries, youth and senior groups as well as the arts.
Application forms are available online at www.miamicountyfoundation.org or by contacting the office at (937) 773-9012. Guidelines restrict organizations to one grant annually. If you received a grant in the spring, you are not eligible to reapply until the next grant deadline. Schools and on-going humanitarian grant recipients are exempt from this restriction.
Successful applicants will receive notification of the fall distribution date.
The Foundation was established in 1985 by Richard E. Hunt, founder of WPTW-AM/WCLR radio.
Art show applications available
WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church is looking for applicants to take part in the 10th annual art show held Oct. 14-1. The deadline for entering is Sept. 28.
The event is held in the activity center at 201 S. Main St., West Milton. The purpose of the show is to share area talent with the public. The show is non-juried.
Some pieces may be available for purchase, with transactions handled directly between the artist and the interested party.
A gift from local arts patron Bill Netzley of Netzley Roofing has enabled Hoffman to offer monetary awards again this year. Awards to be given are $500 for first place, $400 for second place, and $300 for third place. Eight additional awards of $100 each will also be presented.

Apply to be a Christmas Show vendor
TIPP CITY — Applications are being accepted for craftspeople for the 48th Annual Christmas Holiday Show on Saturday, November 12, during Tipp City’s annual Winter Yuletide Gathering.
This show features local artists with their handmade items including articles in wood, fiber arts, glass, polymer clay, and many other materials.
The location is the basement of the Monroe Township Building at the corner of Third and Main Streets in Tipp City. Hours are 9 until 5, set-up the day before. There is a caterer handling food service, and many people come downstairs for lunch and snacks and so also visit the show.
