Superheroes in the park

TIPP CITY — The Tipp City Park will be full of superheroes July 6-10 during TMCS Summer Vacation at the park. There are only 3 spots left so register as soon as you can if you want to participate in this fun week. Boonshoft will visit and campers will learn how superheroes use science to enhance their powers.

Visit the beach in Tipp City

TIPP CITY — If you like the beach and like to play in the water and get wet, July 13 – 17 will be the wettest week of summer. Beach Bash will be full of water games and you can get submerged in the world of the deep blue sea.

Trailing moms and tots

TIPP CITY — The Miami County Park District will hold its Trailing Moms & Tots program on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Charleston Falls Preserve, 2535 Ross Rd. south of Tipp City. This program is for expectant mothers, mothers and tots 0 to five years of age. Participants can socialize, play and exercise during this walk. There may even craft time. Tie dye party planned

WEST MILTON – Milton-Union Public Library offers teens a chance to tie dye this summer.

Young Adult Specialist Dawn Merritt hosts a teen tie dye day for middle and high schoolers , and adds an opportunity for them to bleach items, too. This event is for ages 12 and older and will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14. Attendees must bring their own clothing to tie dye and bleach. They are welcome to do both, but must have separate clothing items. The event is free and all supplies are provided.

Road closure announced

TIPP CITY — Beginning on July 14, 2015, County Road 25A will have a right lane closures/restrictions in the southbound travel lane as well as a left lane restriction in the northbound lane starting approximately 1000 feet north and south of the Meijer’s Facility entrance. RD Jones, subcontractor for the Meijer’s Facility, will be repairing trenches from a December 2014 water main trench placement.

The City has approved a maximum four day closure of the right two lanes involving a southbound lane restriction to one lane and the northbound lanes to be restricted to one lane through the intersection, this closure will only be during the working hours of 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. and all lanes will be re-opened to the traveling public each night. This work is weather dependent and may be extended for the week of July 19.

Firehouse fundraiser set

WEST MILTON — The West Milton Fire Company takes the “John Schultz Christmas Fund” seriously. To give back to local children and families in memory of John during the holidays is huge and something he had a passion for.

This year the station is going to host a car wash and open house on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All of the donations go directly to the fund.

Tipp native joins 84 Lumber

TIPP CITY — Corey Johnson has joined 84 Lumber Company, the nation’s largest privately held building materials and service provider to professional contractors, as a manager trainee at the company’s Troy store.

Johnson is a native of Tipp City, and is a 2014 graduate of University of Dayton.

The Troy store is located at 845 Arthur Drive and offers a wide variety of building products and services to homeowners and professional residential and commercial contractors.

Nominations sought

TIPP CITY — On Sept, 10, the Tipp City Area Community Foundations will honor that tradition of humanitarianism and good will by naming its annual “Philanthropist of the Year.” The recognition will be during the Foundations’ Donor Reception, held in the courtyard of the Hotel Gallery, Corner of Second and Main streets, downtown Tipp City.

The foundations are inviting nominations for its annual award at this time.

Nominees for the Award should be individuals or businesses with a proven record of exceptional generosity who demonstrate outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages other individuals or businesses to take philanthropic leadership roles.

The selection of the recipient will be determined by a committee of TCACF board members and past Award recipients. The identity of the winner will remain confidential until the Award is bestowed. All other nominees will remain permanently confidential.

The Philanthropist of the Year Award was lauchned in 2013. The inaugural recipients of the award were Bob and Jackie Wahl. In the subsequent year, Stan Evans was the recipient.

Since 1943, the Tipp City Area Community Foundations has supported the charitable needs of Tipp City, Monroe Township and Bethel Township through grantmaking. Members of the Distribution Committee are Jim Ranft, chair, Heather Bailey, Dave Grim, Claire Cain Timmer and Jackie Wahl. Other trustees include Mary Bowman, Jesse Chamberlain, Joan Creech, Mike Lightle, Jim McKee, Marilyn Richards and Pete Schinaman.

Christmas in July shows off 2015 homes

TIPP CITY — Curious about what is in store for this year’s Tipp City Christmas in the Village Home Tour? Whet your appetite for the annual event by driving through the West Broadway Boulevard neighborhood. During July, Featured Home signs will be placed in ten yards, indicating the homes on this year’s tour.

This “Christmas in July” promotion will last just one month. Next, mark your calendar for December 4 and 5. These are the dates for the 2015 tour.
