Community Minded Women to award scholarship

TIPP CITY — Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to 2016 Tippecanoe High School graduating seniors by the Community Minded Women of Tipp City.

Each scholarship will be awarded to a graduate who has been accepted by a recognized college, university, business school, or school of advanced training beyond high school.

Consideration will be based upon academic achievement, community/school participation, desire and need. The winners will be announced during the May 2016 Senior Awards Program.

Book project returns

WEST MILTON – The book-creating program “My Book and Me” is back at the Milton-Union Public Library.

“My Book and Me,” gives children the opportunity to write and illustrate a variety of short stories through five separate sessions. The remaining sessions are from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays March 17, 24 and 31. The culminating Art Show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.

Each week, the child will be supplied with a specific prompt, such as a character or a certain setting. A different genre and art material will be chosen for each week. The books will be bound with a spiral binding, so the authors can add more pages later if they choose.

Lions to host blood drive

WEST MILTON — The West Milton Lions Club will sponsor a community blood drive Wednesday, March 16 from 3-7 p.m. in the West Milton United Church of Christ Social Hall, 108 South Main St., celebrating St. Patrick’s Day week and the arrival of spring. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the Community Blood Center “St. Patrick’s Day Blood Donor” t-shirt with the Celtic sun design. Tax assistance available

TIPP CITY — If you are a senior or of low income and get overwhelmed by tax filing, AARP can help. The AARP volunteers are trained to help and will e-file your return every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until April 12 at the Tipp City library.

No appointments necessary, help available on a first come, first served basis.

Flag football registration open

TIPP CITY — Register for Tipp Monroe Community Service’s NFL flag football league for boys and girls before it’s too late. Registration ends March 25 and forms can be found online at or picked up at the TMCS office during office hours.

All games will have certified referees. And are played at Kyle Park. Games and practices on Sunday beginning April 10– May 22. Volunteer coaches are always needed.

Grandma’s Kitchen to reopen

WEST MILTON — Grandma’s Kitchen will reopen March 16 at Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton. This meal is served to the public Wednesday evenings from 5-6:15 in the activity center.

A suggested donation of $7 covers the main course, salad, dessert and drink. A child’s portion meal is also available for a suggested donation of $3. All profits raised are used for local, national and international food ministries.

Cemetery cleanup to begin

WEST MILTON — Spring cleanup for Riverside (West Milton), Wheelock, Potsdam, Old Ludlow, Highland, Curtis, West Branch, and Unity Cemeteries will begin March 1.

Residents are reminded to remove all decorations and flowers. Due to Easter falling early this year, Union Township will be conducting spring cleanup in the cemeteries from March 1 through March 18.

Retired Men’s Golf Leagues offered at Homestead

TIPP CITY – Homestead Golf Men’s Retired Leagues for Wednesday and/or Friday mornings will have an open enrollment and league rules meeting at Homestead at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 13. Homestead is located at 5327 Worley Road, Tipp City.

Interested men retired or older than 55 years of age are invited. Yearly fees of $20 per league are payable April 9 or by start of golf league. Golf balls are awarded for weekly prizes.

Anticipated start of league play will be April 27 and April 29.
