Church offers free family event

TIPP CITY — Families with kids age 3 through fifth grade are invited to a Nickelodeon-style event bringing parents and kids together for music, family games, praise and worship, Wednesday, Feb. 3, 6:30-8 p.m. in the Worship Center at Ginghamsburg Church.

Doors open at 6pm. Childcare is available for infants – age 2. Dinner is offered from 5-6pm for a nominal fee.

Edison State holds open house

MIAMI COUNTY — Edison State Community College invites community members, area high school students and their parents to Explore Edison on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Robinson Theater on the Piqua campus. The open house event will showcase more than 30 of the College’s academic programs.

In addition to exploring Edison State’s academic programs, attendees are invited to meet professors, tour facilities, and learn more about internship, scholarship, and financial aid opportunities. Guests can also speak with university partners about transferring credits earned at Edison State to a four-year college.

The evening includes free pizza and refreshments and attendees will also be entered to win a three-credit hour tuition waiver. TMCS addresses growing heroin epidemic.

TIPP CITY — This class will provide insight into the growing heroin epidemic in our area and the influences on our community. Signs of use, trends, driving under the influence, uses, and the topic of narcan will be discussed. This class is for parents and/or teenagers or any-one in the community who would like more information about heroin use. Officers of the Tipp City Police Department, instructors. Class will be Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 6:30 – 8 pm at the Government Center. Registration is required. Please call for more information or go to www.tmcomservices.org.

UVMC Heart Month health fair set

MIAMI COUNTY — Upper Valley Medical Center will host its annual Heart Month Health Fair for the community Feb. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UVMC Lower Level Conference Rooms.

Free cholesterol/blood sugar/blood pressure screenings will be offered. UVMC clinicians and cardiology professionals will be on hand to provide additional health testing and helpful information.

Scholarships available

MIAMI COUNTY — The Troy Foundation has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2016 scholarship season. More than $300,000 is available for high school seniors in Miami County and surrounding counties.

Our scholarships are made possible by the generosity of individuals, families, organizations and businesses that believe in the power of continued education.

Each scholarship is unique and has specific criteria set up by each of the donors when the fund was established. While most of our scholarships are available to high school seniors, we have a few for post high school graduates majoring in a specific area of study.

For available scholarship information, seniors may contact their high school guidance department, visit the foundation’s website at www.thetroyfoundation.org look under scholarships and the high school you attend or call the Troy Foundation office at (937) 339-8935 with questions. The deadline for most scholarships is March 18.

Purses sought for auction

TIPP CITY — Tipp Monroe Community Services is looking for new or gently used purses, scarves and jewelry for the fourth annual Purse Auction on March 19.

TMCS will be hosting the Purse Auction and luncheon Saturday, March 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tipp City United Methodist Church.

Cost of a ticket is $20. Proceeds will go to the Lunch on Us Program which served 5,355 lunches during the summer of 2015. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 15 at TMCS office at 3 E. Main Street, during office hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Call 667-8631 for more information.
