Retired Teachers meeting set

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Retired Teachers will meet Monday, Oct. 16, at the Troy Church of the Nazarene, located at the corner of Route 55 and Barnhart Roads. The meeting at 11:45 a.m. and includes a luncheon. For luncheon reservations call Connie Keim (937) 335-3683.

The October program will honor educators who have passed for their service to children.

Troy-Tipp Women’s Connection to meet

TROY — The meeting of the Troy-Tipp Women’s Connection will be held at the Troy Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The theme for the luncheon is “Confessions” and the speaker is Sandy Lemmon from Toledo.

Halloween parties set

WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union Public Library is hosting a “Not So Scary” party from 6:30-8 p.m. on Oct. 19. This fun program will include a costume showing, so wear your costumes. The library will offer trick-or-treat safety tips, an interactive story, and Halloween bingo with prizes. There will also be light refreshments and a take home craft.

And on Oct. 31, stop by the “Haunted Library” at the Milton-Union Public Library from 6-8 p.m. during Beggar’s Night in West Milton. Wear a costume and check out the decorations. Drug drop-off upcoming

TROY — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Miami County Sanitary Engineer’s Office will host a curbside drug drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Miami County Sanitary Engineer’s Office, 2200 N. County Road 25-A. Please have all pills emptied from their containers and placed into plastic baggies. No liquids or sharps will be accepted.

Cemetery cleanups planned

MONROE TOWNSHIP — Residents and families are advised that the annual fall cleanup for Maple Hill Cemetery and all other Monroe Township cemeteries will take place the week of Oct. 30 by our cemetery staff. All decorations that are to be saved must be removed by Oct. 29. Fall items may be put back on gravesites Nov. 5.

Be advised that all artificial arrangements must be in a non-glass vase, hanging device, or a monument saddle. Please permanently mark the deceased’s name and contact person on the bottom of a saddle so identification can be made if it is blown off the monument. The cemetery prohibits the placement of landscape rocks around monuments, glass containers, wire, toys and figurines. These are maintenance and safety issues and interfere with mowing and or trimming. These items will be removed.

Annual Election Day dinner set

WEST MILTON — Tuesday, Nov. 7, Hoffman United Methodist Church, 201 S. Main St., West Milton (one block west of St. Rt. 48) will be serving their Election Day Dinner. They have been doing this for more than 100 years.

The hours are 4:30-7 p.m. The menu will include homemade chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, roll, assorted desserts and beverages. Meals are dine in or carry out (for carry out call the church at 698-4401). The cost is a $7.50 donation.

Vendors sought for craft show

WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church, West Milton, will hold its annual craft show on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church activity center.

Bird Club to hold pie sale

MIAMI COUNTY — Miami Valley Bird Club and Rescue is having a fundraiser selling Mehaffie’s Pies. The flavors are apple, dutch apple, cherry, peach, blueberry, lemon, chocolate cream, coconut cream, and pecan. These pies are baked fresh a few days before delivery and can be frozen up to six months.

Pies are $10 each and will be delivered on Sunday, Nov. 19 (the Sunday before Thanksgiving). Orders will be taken until Monday, Nov. 6, and pies must be paid for at time of order.
