Run for the Mums set for Sept. 23

TIPP CITY — The 39th annual Run for the Mums, a 5K road race, will begin at 8 A.M., Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Tipp City Park, located at the corner of North Third Street & Park.

If pre-registered by Sept. 15, runners will receive a TMCS Run for the Mums t-shirt.

Registration will remain open until the start of the race. Pre-event packet and t-shirt pickups are set for Wednesday, Sept. 20, and Thursday, Sept. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the TMCS office, 3 E. Main St.

Proceeds from the race will be used to support youth programs.

“Moana” dance party set

TIPP CITY — Tipp Monroe Community Services is hosting a “Moana” dance party for children ages 4–9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Learn a Moana-inspired dance, play “Moana” themed games, eat some pizza, and make new friends. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The party will be held at the Downtown Dance Loft, 27 1/2 E. Main St., Tipp City. The cost for participants is $23 resident, $25 nonresident.

Library to host book sale

TIPP CITY — The Friends of the Tipp City Public Library are hosting their annual fall book sale on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Senseman Meeting Room at the Library, 11 E. Main St., Tipp City. Get a sneak preview at members’ night, available to Friends only, on Friday, Sept. 29 from 1-6 p.m. Become a member or renew your membership that day.

Children’s books, hard back and paper books, tapes, CDs, and DVDs will be featured. Proceeds to benefit the library.

BNC plans haunted woods

TROY — Enjoy a kid-friendly evening filled with guided walks, live animals and costumed characters at Brukner Nature Center on Oct. 21-22 and 28-29. Your guide will lead you along the gently rolling, luminary-lit trail and stop at five stations along the way so you and your family can learn all about the wild creatures of the night — bring your flashlights.

Activities also include free face painting, games, storytelling at a campfire, plus cookies and cider after the hike. This program is $5 per person for BNC members and $7 per person for non-members (cash or check only). Be sure to have your membership card ready.

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis on the night of the event, handed out in the order that you arrive at the gate at our entrance, so if you want to join your friends please ride together or meet and drive in together! Gate opens at 6 p.m. with the first group leaving at 6:30 p.m. and every 5 minutes after that. Parking is limited.

Wildlife expert to speak

TROY — OSU Extension will host Dr. Stan Gehrt, OSU Extension wildlife specialist and coyote expert on Oct. 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Extension Meeting Room on the ground floor of the Old Courthouse in Troy.

Dr. Gehrt will share information on coyote behavior, community-level strategies for urban and rural management, and how to minimize conflict based on a long-term study of over 800 coyotes living in Chicago and surrounding areas.

Master Gardners program planned

TROY — The Miami County Master Gardener Volunteers will present “What’s Digging up my Yard?” at the next session in the Coffee with the Master Gardeners series on Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. Amanda Bennett, Agriculture and Natural Resource Educator will discuss critters that vandalize yards and how to deal with them. Critters of interest are moles, voles, raccoons, squirrels, skunks, groundhogs, grubs, yellow jackets and other common lawn bandits.

The session will be in the Extension Meeting Room on the ground floor of the Old Courthouse in Troy. The cost is $10 and pre-registration is required by Oct. 4.
