TIPP CITY — Miami Valley Voices of the Generation is a teen writers group that meets weekly on Monday nights at the Tipp City Library conference room from 6-8 p.m. Under the direction of Misty Brown, a local writer and artist, this industrious group of teens are not only learning to get their creative juices flowing but have been inspired to create a publication that they hope to share in our community.
The group focuses on helping students to develop their unique writing style by participating in group games, writing challenges and prompts and creating a safe space for teens to express themselves by giving them a healthy outlet for their creativity, thoughts and emotions.
They gain confidence by sharing their work with the group and on our Facebook page and they are working hard on their new publication.
Miami Valley Voices of the Generation is intended to be a monthly four page publication, written entirely by teens for teens, addressing important social issues like bullying, peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, social media and the effects that today’s culture has on their age group.
This group of teens has already begun working on their first issue that will include original writing, poetry, artwork, photography and some humorous additions that will give them not only a voice, but also great pride and integrity in becoming collaborators and leaders in our close knit community.
It will also include articles from community leaders and experts addressing parents on the topics that are relevant to provide support and insight to families with children and teens, as well as to community professionals who work with youth and families.
The community is invited to join the group on Monday nights to become a part of something that matters.
