MIAMI COUNTY — On Tuesday, the Miami County Commissioners awarded contracts for renovations to the county’s Communication Center.

The project will replace six workstations and make repairs to the sub-floor under the desks in the dispatch room.

Communication Center Director Jeff Busch said that the wear on the floors from desk chairs at the “24-hour, seven day a week operation” has damaged the sub-flooring.

The carpets and ceiling tiles in the dispatch room will be replaced with sound-dampening materials, he added. This is intended to reduce background noise from calls going out over the radio.

The workstations and furniture will also be replaced with more ergonomic chairs and adjustable monitors. Dispatchers use eight monitors at each individual workstation.

Dispatchers will work from the county’s back up center until the work is completed, Busch said.

The commissioners awarded the $191,680 contract for work station furniture to RDT Concepts of Avon, Ohio, and the $39,277 for general contract work to Old Oak General Contractors of West Milton.
