Board discusses construction funding

TIPP CITY — At their regular meeting Monday night, the Tipp City school board discussed potential future construction projects and approved a few final hires before the first day of school.

Several members of the board recently met with representatives of the Ohio School Facilities Commission, including board president Carla Frame.

According to Frame, the district remains on the commission’s active planning list and is currently slated to receive 26 percent state funding should the board decide to build with the OSFC.

“Of course, that could change at pretty much any time depending on how many projects they have and how much money they have,” Frame said of the funding percentage. “That means the state would be able to provide 26 percent of the project cost.”

Frame added that the district could possibly obtain approval from the OSFC for a project in October 2017.

“That being said, there’s a lot of work to do between then and now in order to take advantage of that opportunity,” she said.

She said that the district would have to make sure there is a good facilities plan in place, as well as a better understanding of the ins and outs of working with the state “with respect to finances and the actual construction process.”

In other business, the board approved the hiring of several new staff members, including Roseanne Eggleston, special education aide; Teresa Everhart, assistant cook; Vincent Godsey, special education aide; Julie Griffiths, special education aide; and Tina Greer, lunchroom personnel.

The district will host a series of open houses on Aug. 22 before school starts on Aug. 24.

Tippecanoe Middle School’s open house is set for 6-7:30 p.m., with all sixth graders and new seventh and eighth graders meeting at 6:30 p.m. The Tippecanoe High School open house will last from 6-7:30 p.m.
