TIPP CITY — Enjoying much better weather than in previous seasons, the Tippecanoe Family Aquatic Center has seen dramatically higher attendance and revenue this summer.
Finance director John Green discussed the pool fund, and several others, during the mid-year financial update at council’s study session Monday night.
“The pool fund is having a fantastic year,” Green said.
The three main revenue sources at the aquatic center are up significantly, he said. Season pass sales were up about 22 percent over last year, while admissions and concession sales were both up around 65 percent.
Concessions are up so much, council may need to approve supplemental funding to purchase additional supplies, Green said.
Last season the pool was closed about two weeks total, mainly due to bad weather. This season, the center has only had two rain days.
“As of yesterday, we’re up to $246,000 and last year, through the end of the season, we brought in $260,000,” Green said. “We’re only about $15,000 off our total receipts for last year with 30 days to go.”
General Fund expenses for the year so far total $2,895,175 and receipts are at $3,430,894, Green said — a difference of $535,719.
For the rest of the city’s 28 funds, receipts are at $19,935,710 as of June 30, while expenses are at $19,060,598 — a difference of about $875,112.
Overall, expenses for all funds are in line with the budget so far this year, Green said.
The city is on track to pay down all non-utility debt by 2020, he added. Through June 30, the city has paid down $855,080 in debt.
At their regular meeting, council approved the purchase of a power control room for Substation No. 3 at a cost of $553,527. The contract was awarded to Meyers Controlled Power LLC Of North Canton, Ohio.
Council also heard the first reading of a one-year contract extension with Waste Management for refuse collection.
Councilman John Kessler raised concerns about the inclusion of alley pick-up in the contract, saying that the trucks are causing damage to some properties.
Council will vote on the contract at their next meeting, to be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1.
