TROY — Kids say the darndest things.
Despite a few sprinkles, the Troy Strawberry Festival’s littlest supports came out for their moment on stage for the annual Lil Miss and Mr. Strawberry contest.
Elizabeth Marie Sowers, 4, of West Milton, and Liam Edwards, 5, of Troy, were crowned the cutest couple under the umbrellas.
The duo will represent the festival at area parades and Strawberry Festival events throughout the year.
“It was good,” Sowers as she touched her new crown.
Sowers was decked out with strawberry earrings and a berry manicure.
“I liked telling people things,” she said.
Sowers also went home with another medal for her “berry” adorable strawberry dress.
“Mommy and me picked it out together,” Sowers shared.
Sowers is the daughter of Adam and Staci Sowers of West Milton.
The 2016 Lil Mr. Strawberry Liam Edwards will accompany Sowers during all their royal duties throughout the year.
Liam shared how he enjoyed getting up on stage to share some of his favorite activities.
Edwards is the son of Tyler and Brittany Edwards of Troy.
The 2016 Strawberry Festival Queen Jasmeen Gill served as one of the three judges at the event. She said her favorite part of the festival thus far was watching the littlest strawberry fans share their stories on stage.
“The little kids have been the best so far. They are so cute and it’s been fun seeing them talk to the audience,”Gill said. Gill, along with Shannon Cothran and Kaitlyn Parker passed out trophies and assisted the participants on stage throughout the contest.
Third place winners were Kaitlyn Beatty and Benjamin Maxson and second place winners were Katie Quinn and Trace Chaney.
The event was sponsored by Marsh Supermarkets and Chick-fil-A and emceed by Sally Reichert.
