New farmer’s market to open

WEST MILTON — Beginning Saturday, June 11, a new farmers market will launch in downtown West Milton.

Organizers of this new venture are hoping to grow the event over the summer, while promoting community spirit and local small businesses.

“This is going to be our first annual farmers market,” said Sarah Copp, organizer and councilwoman. Council discussed the idea last winter and decided to give it a shot, she said.

Organizers wanted a way to bring community together and attract people to downtown West Milton, Copp said. They hope the event might boost foot traffic to other downtown businesses.

“We want to promote small business also,” she said. “And also bring people downtown. Maybe people will be more likely to go to places like Wertz’s or Pearson House.”

Event organizers are looking for vendors, especially produce, but also sellers of homemade baked goods or treats, as well as other items like jewelry, soaps, art and more.

The event will also have food trucks, Copp said.

They would also be open to partnering with local organizations or teams for fundraisers, she added.

The market will be located on St. Rt. 48 in the large parking lot near Curry’s Video. It will be open from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday until mid-September.

For more information or to register as a vendor, visit the West Milton city building. It will be $25 to register for the entire season, or $5 per day.

“We know it will probably start small, but hopefully it will grow,” Copp said.
