Information provided by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office:

April 29

FLEEING AND ELUDING: A deputy was traveling southbound on St. Rt. 202 in the area of St. Rt. 571 when they observed a vehicle traveling northbound higher than the listed speed limit. The deputy activated radar and it showed that the vehicle was traveling at 80 mph. The deputy activated emergency lights and siren and tried to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued northbound and made an eastbound turn onto Childrens Home Grayson Road in attempt to elude the officer. The vehicle continued eastbound into Casstown where it finally came to rest. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the driver Lavar Cottrell was taken into custody without incident.

May 1

LIQUOR GONE: A deputy was dispatched to the fairgrounds in reference to a theft complaint. The officer spoke with the caller. The reporting party explained between 8 p.m. April 30 and midnight May 1 the door to his storage room was kicked open. Six beers and a bottle of Bacardi 151 rum was stolen. There was damage caused to the door and door frame. Case pending.

RACING: A deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of Dayton Brandt Road, in reference, to an accident. The driver left the scene and later was located. The driver was issued a citation for for street racing, reasonable control, and speed. The deputy will be following up with the driver of the other vehicle, James McNulty.

JAIL INCIDENT: A deputy was dispatched to the Miami County Incarceration Facility on a fire alarm. The deputy was advised inmate Almonte had broken the sprinkler in his cell to set off the fire alarm. This was done because he was upset over not being able to use the phone. Water flooded his cell and the sprinkler was damaged. The Troy Fire Department responded and had to stay on scene until maintenance personnel arrived. This incident took place as jail visitation was scheduled to begin. The public was alarmed that was waiting on visitation to start and visitation was cancelled. Almonte was transported to the downtown jail and charged.

May 2

WELFARE CHECK: A deputy was dispatched to the listed address on a welfare check. Dispatch advised a male was attempting to jump in front of a semi. Upon arrival contact was made with the subject. The subject was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center for a psych evaluation.

CRIMINAL DAMAGING: A deputy was dispatched to Charleston Falls in reference to a male that caused damage to a window on the restroom building. The male was still present upon arrival and admitted to breaking the window. All though he claimed it was accidental, it was explained to him that under the circumstances he is being charged with criminal damage. The male was cited, given his court date and released.

May 3

OVI: A deputy stopped the listed vehicle for a moving violation in the 1600 block of Lytle Road, Troy. The deputy made contact with the driver who was identified as the defendant Jeffrey L Davis. After further investigation Mr. Davis was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody for OVI.
