Local author to host workshop

WEST MILTON – Author Jacqueline T. Moore is back with a new book and a new writing workshop! Join her at the Milton-Union Public Library on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. Moore will give a book reading, book signing, and work with burgeoning writers in “The Power of Dialogue: An Introduction to Writing Conversations.”

Learn the importance of the acronym LELES (Listen, Edit, Leak, Energize, Skip) when writing dialogue and practice with special prompts. The spunky grandma will be reading and using portions of her new novel “The Checkerboard,” a sequel to “The Canary.”

“The Checkerboard” continues the story of resourceful Myra Gallaway, her new husband CB, and Black Jack and his new red-headed wife Marguerite. The men show that, against all odds, a mixed ship sails well. The wives band together in the house in LaPorte to prove the same to their new neighborhood. All seems to go as expected until that crazy gypsy, Lulah Marie, shows up and practically sets the house on fire. Add in a rebellious teenager, a drunken sailor and a momentous voyage, and you’ve got another adventure with the good folks of Galveston Island.

Moore lives in Englewood now, but grew up in East Dayton where she graduated from Dayton Public Schools. She taught both elementary and college language and reading for a total of 41 years before she retired.

“The Checkerboard” is already receiving rave reviews and landed in the top 50 for Amazon’s Kindle African-American historical list bestsellers.
