Trustees pass permanent appropriations

MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township Trustees passed the 2016 Permanent Appropriations of $ 2,001,800 at their March 21 meeting. This amount is available to cover township expenses in 2016, and by comparison, the 2015 Permanent Appropriations totaled $18,878,450.

After this action, the board moved to pay current bills for the township of $23,234.67.

The board also passed an amendment to the Monroe Township Cemetery Rules and Regulations. Current rules read that “Memorial items are limited to direct placement on the permanent monument, or on the edges of the concrete foundation.” It was noted that benches may be “located in place of a monument, but not in addition to a monument on the same grave.”

The addition to the rules was inserted into the paragraph which states that no enclosure of any kind, such as a fence, coping, hedge or ditch will be permitted around any grave or lot, and will now additionally read: “no rock, stone or gravel materials shall be permitted to be placed on the grave or lot, nor around the monument.”

This new ruling has been made by the trustees to decrease the chances of damage to township mowers, neighboring monuments, or the possibility of injury to a cemetery visitor or staff personnel from gravel accidentally hit when mowing or trimming. Likewise, glass containers and wire are already not permitted around monuments in the cemetery for the same reasons. Signs will be posted in the cemetery advising of the new regulation.

Other resolutions passed March 21 included acceptance of the 2016 tax rates of revenue for the Tipp City Senior Citizens Levy that was passed in November 2015; and the adoption of the Ohio EPA Third Generation National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems Storm Water Management Program 2015 Annual Report.

The next meeting set by the township trustees will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 4 in their meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City.
