Township begins cemetery cleanup

MONROE TOWNSHIP — Springtime cemetery cleanup at Monroe Township cemeteries will begin March 20 as announced at the township’s board meeting on March 7.

The township asks all decorations that individuals wish to save to be removed by March 20 so the cemetery staff can perform this bi-annual cleanup. All new flower arrangements for the cemetery monuments may be placed beginning March 25, Good Friday. As a reminder, all artificial arrangements placed at that time must be in a non-glass vase, hanging device, or on a monument saddle. It is also recommended that a permanent marking of the deceased’s name and a contact person be placed on the bottom of a saddle so identification can be made if it is blown off the monument. Any arrangement that is a maintenance problem will be disposed of.

Since mowing season is soon approaching, individuals decorating grave sites are reminded cemetery regulations will be enforced. These regulations prohibit glass containers, wire, toys and figurines that interfere with mowing and trimming.

In other business, the trustees voted to purchase new signs for the township cemeteries of Frederick, Monroe and Pearson at a total cost of $1,740 from Haas Signs. Bills paid at this board meeting totaled $45,477.27.

The trustees also accepted the financial status reports ending February 2016 and the bank reconciliation of Jan. 31, 2016.

It was noted the next Monroe Township Water and Sewer District meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday, March 14, in the Monroe Township meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City. The meetings are always open to the public.
