TIPP CITY — 2015 was another great year for science education in Tipp City Schools.
A donor support organization, Tippecanoe STEAM Boosters, Inc., has made grant presentations from January 2007 to the present, totalling over $72,000, for Tipp City Schools STEM related programs, field trips, and the purchase of lab equipment, classroom technology and resource materials.
Tippecanoe STEAM Boosters’ grant giving is made possible by combining donations from individuals, community organizations and local corporations.
In 2015, our organization and its donors funded: $160 to LT Ball Intermediate for the Hatching Eggs project, for eggs and supplies; $500 to Tippecanoe Middle School for a new BMX bike kit program, where students learn physics, engineering and mechanics; $1200 for Tippeanoe High School Advanced Placement & General Chemistry, three Lab Centrifuges to replace non-working and/or unsafe models; $850 for THS Math & Engineering & Statistics supplemental course materials.
Additional projects included: Funding of field trip to Edison We Are IT (TMS girls), field trip to Wright Bros. Airport (TMS STEM), Math Counts Registration (TMS); partial funding of Destination ImagiNation team to compete at Global Finals, partial funding of LittleBits Electronic building blocks kits for shared use by TMS and Tipp Public Library; $4000 purchase of Chromebooks for LTB & TMS, $700 purchase of educational materials for THS Environmental Area.
Tippecanoe STEAM Boosters continues to support the Science Fair program which has grown since 2005 from a small program for just Tipp students to a four county, 20+ schools program which has garnered attention throughout Ohio.
The 2016 Miami County Science Day will be held at Tippecanoe High School on Thursday, Feb. 11, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
None of these purchases, activities or events would be possible without the support of local businesses, community organizations, and interested individuals.
This long list of supporters includes: Emerson Climate Technologies, Tipp Monroe Optimists, Tipp City Rotary, Tipp City Area Foundations, Wahl Family Fund, Tippecanoe Masonic Lodge No. 174, Abbott Nutrition, Adare Pharmaceuticals, Regal Beloit, Alvetro Orthodontics, Premier Health, Cargill, Royal Crest Insurance, J&L Wood Products, Tipp City Veterinary Hospital, Hickory River Smokehouse, Energy Optimizers, Ramco Electric Motors, and a number of generous families and individuals.
“STEAM” stands for Science, Technology, Engineering And Mathematics. We will have a number of requests come from math & science teachers again this spring. Donated funds can be combined with other donations to help meet the funding needs for STEM related lab equipment, classroom technology, field trips and learning resources. These items enhance our students learning beyond the standard classroom offering available in most schools, giving our students an educational edge in college and career.
