Life-size toy stolen from store

Staff Reports

TIPP CITY — On Saturday evening, a familiar life-size toy was stolen from Cairns Toys in downtown Tipp City.

Store owner Melissa Cairns told police that a a white male in his 40s stole a 5-foot-tall Redwings hockey player figure from the sidewalk in front of the store just before closing on Saturday.

The suspect then drove off in a dark blue Jeep Liberty. The figure is valued at more than $300.

Residents and visitors to Tipp City are familiar with the Playmobil figures that have stood for years outside Cairns Toys downtown. This is the first time one of the figures has ever been stolen, Cairns said.

The figures are displayed on the sidewalk during store hours, tied to the building so they don’t get blown over by the wind, Cairns said. The figures, which also include a princess and a pirate, are brought inside when the store closes.

“He must have known that, because he came just before closing,” Cairns said.

She told police that she had recently received a call from man asking if the Playmobil figures were available for purchase.

Playmobil allows the store to purchase one figure per year for marketing purposes, Cairns said. They cannot be sold to the public.

The store’s Facebook page asks that anyone with information about the theft contact the Tipp City Police Department at (937) 667-3112.
