Retired Milton-Union H.S. principal faces felony obscenity charges

Troy Police detectives charged Allen Smith with illegal use of a minor in nudity and pandering obscene materials

TROY —Allen Smith, 67, of West Milton, entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment in Miami County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.

Last week, Smith was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of second degree felony illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material and five counts of fourth degree felony pandering obscenity.

Judge Christopher Gee set Smith’s bond at $250,000.

According to Troy Police, an investigation began on Sept. 21 when a mother of a 14 year-old girl reportedly found messages on a cell phone between Smith and the minor.

According to a press release from Detective Chris Tilley, during the investigation several other illegal activities involving minors were discovered which subsequently led to the grand jury indictments. Further investigation is still ongoing and more charges are possible.

Smith was a former educator in the Milton-Union School district. He was the principal of Milton-Union High School from 1992-2001, according to the school’s website. He was formerly employed as a curriculum supervisor with the Miami County Education Service Center. According to Superintendent of the Miami County ESC Tom Dunn, Smith resigned unexpectedly in September. Dunn said Smith’s job at the ESC did not involve any contact with students.
