Stockler introduced in new fire department position

Staff Reports

MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township Trustees were introduced to David Stockler, the new Tipp City Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau Inspector, at the township meeting held July 17. Stockler, a four and a half year member of the Tipp City Fire Department, has taken on the duties of routinely inspecting businesses in the Tipp City and Monroe Township areas, and assisting with fire investigations after a fire has taken place in the city or township.

Various future plans will also include education about fire prevention codes, computer installation in the fire trucks for quicker information ability, and helping monitor the weather sirens not only in the city but also in Monroe Township. The discussions over weather sirens reminds all area residents that the tornado sirens are activated by the Miami County 9-1-1 for the entire Miami County area when a tornado is approaching somewhere within the county. These sirens warn residents of the potential that a tornado is in the county but not necessarily in the given township where the sirens are sounding. It is also suggested that when one hears the siren to take cover and check television/radio weathercasts or check computers for online weather alerts and information.

During the township business meeting, bills paid totaled $10, 281.27.

Residents are also reminded each Wednesday through September the Miami County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Miami County Sanitary Engineer Office, 2200 N. County Road 25-A, Troy; and the weekly Tipp City Farmers Marketplace is each Thursday through September from 5-8 p.m. at the corner of S. Third and E. Main streets. It was also noted the trustees will be attending the July 31 6 p.m. Tri Agency meeting hosted this quarter by the City of Tipp City; an all day, “Canoegrass” celebration of bluegrass music takes place August 3-6 at Adventures on the Great Miami, 1995 Ross Road, Tipp City; and that this year’s Miami County Fair will take place at the Troy fairgrounds Aug. 11-17.

The next meeting set for the township trustees is Monday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the township meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City.
