MIAMI COUNTY — At their meeting Tuesday, the Miami County commissioners approved the provision of school resource officer services to two area school districts.
The commissioners approved contracts with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Milton-Union schools, and the Upper Valley Career Center for school resource officer services.
The contract with Milton-Union is mostly unchanged, but does include a 2.5 percent increase in cost to reflect the increase in deputy pay. The part-time school resource officer will work approximately 80 hours per month at a cost of $17,416.
According to Sheriff Dave Duchak, the contract with the Upper Valley Career Center has changed from a part-time SRO presence to a full-time, three-year contract.
The deputy will provide 40 hours of service per week and develop a curriculum to inform students of laws including underage drinking, smoking and drug use.
Upper Valley CC has agreed to pay $62,269 for the 2017-18 school year, $65,167 for the 2018-19 school year, and $67,122 for the 2019-20 school year, Duchak said.
In other business, the commissioners authorized the Sheriff’s Office to begin negotiations withe Keefe Commissary Network for inmate commissary services. Proposals for those services were received earlier this year.
